Nothing Has Been Wasted

Though some years have passed
And some dreams have been deferred,
Nothing has been wasted.

Though you may feel unmoved,
Or unfulfilled,
Something has surely changed:
Something visible,
Or invisible,
Something beyond
What your eyes can see,
Something in your internal sea.

You are no longer the same,
Except your name.
You are constantly changing:
You are being and becoming.
And change can be nauseating;
It can be very uncomfortable,
Or very intolerable.

Time and again,
You will climb a mountain
That will break you down,
But you will find a love fountain
That will heal your pain.
In the end, nothing will be wasted,
But you will have experienced:
You will have felt; you will have reasoned;
You will have learned; you will have unlearned;
You will have slept; you will have awakened

To restart your heart and your mind,
To give yourself a second chance,
Instead of a poisoned chalice,
To beat procrastination,
To avoid self-flagellation,
To glide over a spark of light,
And to nevermore stick in a rut.

  1. wish you had a wonderful wonderful birthday Elyas.
    And yes, that is a very nice reflection of the years that pass by us. Some dreams defer, sometimes we fall… but all of it teaches us something, it’s never wasted.
    Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year.

  2. Lovely reflective poem … a well written account of life’s journey.
    Expressively written, Elyas.
    Belated Birthday wishes to you. May you have many, many more.
    My hope is that the holiday season has been a magical one for you.
    In 2013, there will be more wonders for you to explore and write so
    fabulously about.
    Eniberti ….!!!!
    Happy Holidays,
    Isadora

  3. True! Though we feel we are the same, our experiences are constantly changing us. They might have been uncomfortable, but ‘nothing has been wasted.’
